An Ode to Overdressing
This week I’ve been thinking about dressing up. It may be because I’ve spent the better part of it hunched over my laptop in the same pair of army green sweat pants and oversized tee shirt I stole from my partner, careening towards deadlines.
In lieu of getting fancy myself, I’ve made a list of fancy inspiration for us all to enjoy. I present to you:
An Ode to Overdressing
The DIY style of 80s clubs kids (if you’re in London, the Fashion and Textiles museum has a new show centred around the legendary club, Taboo).
The Power Suit’s Subversive legacy.
The making of Dior Haute Couture.
Matty Matheson’s Best Hot Dogs Ever (I would argue that hotdogs are ‘dressed’).
Tau Lewis’ intricate, expansive textile (and plaster/steel/acrylic/etc) works (these don’t fit my theme, really, but they’re here because you need to see them).
Lastly, someone please throw a party and invite me so I have an excuse to make this dress.
