About
Working Cloth is a design practice by Lauren MacDonald that aims to help people understand, use, and repurpose the materials around them. It’s spanned workshops, patterns, residencies, exhibitions and one giant interactive textile sculpture that plays soundbytes of kindergarteners meowing like cats.
Lauren MacDonald is a London-based designer, researcher and author. She makes quilts, clothes, books and friends. She’s interested in the intersections between craft, technology, and labour, particularly around activities traditionally considered ‘womens’ work’. Her first non-fiction book, In Pursuit of Color: from fungi to fossil fuels: uncovering the origins of the world’s most famous dyes (Atelier Éditions/Art Book D.A.P), was released in 2023. A second non-fiction book, Piece by Piece: modern patchwork and quilting projects to make from pre-loved fabrics will be published by Hardie Grant in March 2025.
