Quilt making for Beginners. Tuesdays, May 2rd—23rd. 7—9 pm.
Over four sessions 2-hour sessions (and some homework) you will create your hand made quilt.
You will be guided through the cutting and patchwork process for one of three patterns, a rail fence quilt, nine patch, or sash quilt. During the following week, I will show you how to prepare and baste a quilt ready for hand-stitching, and then we’ll start quilting. We will be practising big stitch quilting using cotton sashiko thread and will discuss other kinds of hand and machine quilting.
Week three will be a stitch-along with any troubleshooting, and in session four you will learn how to trim and bind your final work. In order to keep up, you will need to do some of the patchwork and hand quilting in your own time. The quilt pattern will be provided, but all other materials will need to be sourced.
You will need:
A device with a webcam and Zoom
A sewing machine
Sewing machine thread
An iron
Pins
Quilting needles (I recommend Sashiko needles)
Sashiko thread
Fabric (as specified in the pattern). Amounts will depend on the size of quilt you wish to make.
Due to small class sizes, bookings are non-refundable.
