ABOUT

Lauren MacDonald is a designer, researcher and author based in London. She makes quilts, clothes, books and friends. She’s interested in the intersections between craft, technology, and labour, particularly around activities traditionally considered ‘womens’s work’. Her first non-fiction book, In Pursuit of Color: from fungi to fossil fuels, uncovering the origins of the world’s most famous dyes (Atelier Éditions/Art Book D.A.P), was released in 2023. A second non-fiction book is under development and set for release in early 2025.

Lauren worked under the moniker “Working Cloth” from 2016 - 2023 (the domain name of this website is a hangover), creating a studio practice that included residencies, exhibitions, and collaborations, with the likes of: Institute of Making (UCL), Store Projects, Foresta Collective, Toast, Straw London, Edmonton Public Schools, Sydney Craft Week, and Absolute Beginners
